It was a hot, sweaty, steamy July night in the Magic City; the kind of night ripe for a fictionalized account of a heinous crime. The crowd at Georgie’s Alibi, the Wilton Manners area of Miami’s premiere gay bar, was positively jumping. The throbbing music was making the crowd move and the birthday party being held had the patrons giving off a radiant vibe. Little Hudson Hayward Hemingway was looking good as he quietly sat in his specialty bag scoping out the crowd, clad in his own soft pink coat accented by the pink earrings on his furry yet pointy four-month-old chihuahua ears. Cher’s “Believe” blasted through the speakers and Triple H’s 48-year old owner Brian Dortort shot a look over at his new best friend as if to say, “I believe in life after love as long as I have my adorable pup that I can dress up in a totally ridiculous manner.” (more…)
We’ve really been loving the great feedback, write-ups, and support we’re receiving from the people who are using OneRiot. From providing us with great user insight, to creating custom desktop backgrounds for us, our OneRioting community has been kicking butt (sometimes even kicking OUR butt when we need it). You may remember our first OneRioter Who Rocks, Alex Odam, from a post we put up a few weeks ago. Originally he discovered us through Twitterbar - and since then, he’s been unstoppable. After writing a OneRiot review for his school paper, Alex decided to design this custom Twitter background for us, and has been chatting with us on how to get more involved in realtime search. Every day, I glance at the handy dandy OneRiot Trending Topics bar and have to settle for some mundane newspiece like the Iran elections, or our president’s inauguration. But today, I was delighted to find that one of my favorite things was trending: the city of Philadelphia! (more…)
Yesterday we celebrated the release of the new, OneRiot-equipped Digsby with a little haiku contest. Tons of you participated, resulting in the most poetic interpretations of a dorky product we’ve seen since the first slew of iPhone reviews.
To all those who joined in on the fun - thank you, you rock. To Lana Winter and Chris O’Callahan - thank yourselves, you won. And to “Mark,” whoever you are, thank you for correctly pointing out that I am the worst editor this side of Web 2.0 (see also: comment stating that our example haiku has one syllable too many). If you come forward and identify yourself*, you get a mimobot too (you left nothing but your name. OH, and a punch in the gut).

Here’s to the Barack Obamas, William Jefferson Clintons, Leonardo Da Vincis and Paul McCartneys of the world who, despite not feeling comfortable at their right-handed desks, have been able to etch their names in the pages of history.
Being left-handed can be both an affliction and a blessing. While many lefties are said to be geniuses, the act of transferring the brilliance they possess from pen to paper is often met with smeared ink. Lefties have faced much hardship in their lives, from sitting next to a righty at the dinner table to engaging in a proper handshake with someone of the opposite-handed persuasion, and lest we forget, looking ever so awkward with a pair scissors. The lefty must persevere through a childhood of bitter strife in which the other 90% of the population tells them they’re not patriotic unless they put their right hand over their heart during the pledge of allegiance. Rise and shine America, a new day has dawned for our way of life. When you woke up yesterday there were three branches of Government: The Legislative, The Executive, and The Judicial. However, this morning as you look out your window at the summer sun, you should know that one third of those branches is no longer with us. With the recent advent of the beer summit in which President Obama settled the issue of whether or not Henry Louis Gates was guilty of breaking into his own house by simply inviting the Harvard Professor and his arresting officer to discuss the charges over a beer, overnight it has become customary to settle all disputes this way. The internet has led us individualistic Americans to monumental changes in self discovery. We once stopped at pondering the simple, yet impossible questions, such as ‘What job should I pursue?’ and ‘What will make me happy?’ A few color coded personality tests and Cosmo compatibility quizzes later, we found that we needed more. Who will I marry? Am I a Ninja or a Zombie? Which Teletubby am I most likely to murder? Today, a chunk of Twitterific Americans asked the most profound query yet: Which Seinfeld character am I? Happy Bastille Day OneRiot readers! Today marks the 220th anniversary of the day revolutionary frog forces stormed the Bastille fortress-prison symbolizing the people’s disenchantment with the Monarchy and the arrival of a modern France. It’s also known as the last time those surrender monkeys didn’t back down from a challenge and runaway at the slightest inkling of any sort of threat. But we here at OneRiot praise you, France, for we too are cowards - er, lovers - not fighters (though we will put a boot in yer ass the American way). So all you Gerard Depardieus, Inspector Clousseaus, and Sophie Marceaus, in tribute to your special day, we here at OneRiot thought we’d make a little quiz to test the Frenchiness of our readers.
