Census Reports 150,000 Same Sex Marriages

Although America at large has been slow to accept gay marriage, the gay community seems to be carrying on with the business of official couplehood without much notice of legislation that doesn’t favor their lifestyle. The census shows that almost 150,000 same sex couples reported being married despite their particular brand of marriage being illegal in their states. (more…)

In the midst of all the madness going on in the news, we the viewing public deserve a little heartwarming story. The clip of a Phillies fan catching a foul ball and triumphantly handing it to his three-year-old daughter only to have her toss it right back has been all over the TV and the internets, giving us all an ‘awwww’ moment the likes of which we haven’t experienced since early Full House seasons. League of Legendary Broadcasters Welcomes Ernie Anastos

There are certain things you just don’t say. Amongst those things, you should never wish ill on someone else’s family, shout fire in a public theater, or suggest your president is somehow responsible for the holocaust. After those things, there’s an entirely different realm of the unspoken which exists solely for people who hold public forum, which George Carlin affectionately dubbed the “seven words you can’t say on television.”

Last night FOX-NY anchor Ernie Anastos created an entirely new category of the unutterable, melding one of those seven forbidden broadcast words with what some might refer to as an artfully nonsensical non sequitur - and on live television no less. The veteran NYC area anchor, seemingly trying to bridge the gap between a weather forecast by meteorologist Nick Gregory and a story about the new Dan Brown book, laughingly encouraged his fair weather friend to “keep f%$king that chicken” and then just kept a rollin’ as if nothing inappropriate had been said. Steel Cage Match: Dodd vs. McMahon

9/16/09 - Posted by Evan Kessler under Politics, US

Over the last several months the debate over healthcare has made congress look like it was embroiled in WWE Battle Royale. Barack Obama’s big speech made us feel like he was the last man standing in the ring, just before Joe Wilson made it apparent that Republicans were still hanging onto the top rope and about to charge directly at the president’s bill with a folding chair slung over their shoulders. All Wrestling metaphors aside, it looks like another Royal Rumble may be coming to the Connecticut political arena just in time for the 2010 election!

picture-2315Linda McMahon, CEO of the WWE and wife of the organization’s Chairman, Vince McMahon, has announced her intentions to run for the Republican nomination for Connecticut Senatorial Seat currently occupied by “Kid Dynamite” Chris Dodd. Instead of the engaging in the typical electoral process, The Moderate Mawler is aiming at a steel cage ladder match lasting three falls. Should Mrs. McMahon take the Senatorial Championship, CSPAN is expected to become a lot more interesting as it will feature frequent filibusters from the likes of Macho Man Randy Savage and The Rock, not to mention every Monday Night you’ll be able to catch CSPAN Raw where government disputes are settled in the ring. Now that’s what I call Government!

Rifqa Bary Helps America Step Backward

9/15/09 - Posted by Abdullah Saeed under US

picture-930When America learned about Rifqa Bary’s story a few weeks ago, those who were already convinced that Islam is evil received further affirmation for their beliefs. The occurrence was a perfect indication not only of Islam’s supposedly murderous nature, but also of the saving grace of Christ. It was big news.

Truthfully, it’s not so big news. It’s not even the truth. But let’s talk about it anyway. (more…)

Patrick Swayze Dead at 57

9/15/09 - Posted by Evan Kessler under Life & Culture, US

picture-278The rumors had been swirling around the internet over the last year and a half or so. They said, “Patrick Swayze is on his deathbed,” or “Patrick Swayze has left us.” Yet with each viciously unfounded rumor, Mr. Swayze would emerge from the shadows of doubt as if to defiantly proclaim, “Nobody puts Swayze in a corner. Not even this damned pancreatic cancer.”

Unfortunately, that statement couldn’t stay true forever, as last night the world lost a fine talent in Patrick Swayze. While Swayze was known best for the filthy way he could cut a rug, he was much more than the star of the 1987 smash hit Dirty Dancing. The Hollywood heartthrob was best known for portraying lovers, fighters, and the occasional bank robber/surfer, but he also had a knack for comedy as evidenced by his memorable Chippendales romp on SNL with the late Chris Farley, as well as his portrayal of a drag queen in the movie with the longest title ever.

Swayze was a true triple threat in every sense of the phrase and now he is gone, and not even Oda Mae Brown can bring him back. In an affectionate tribute to his memory, we offer up a small sampling of his tremendous talent in the form of his hit single off of the Dirty Dancing soundtrack, “She’s Like The Wind.” Patrick Swayze - you will be missed.

September 11, 2009: A New Yorker’s Perspective

The city that never sleeps pretty much still never sleeps.

The city that never sleeps pretty much still never sleeps. Walking around the New York City of 2009, you might never know the tragic events of September 11, 2001 ever occurred were it not for that giant undeveloped hole in the ground downtown, the memories of all of those who witnessed the events first hand, and the thousands of people who perished that day.

picture-1337 This city’s stoic gleam is a testament to the people in it. I remember the few who fled out of stress and paranoia in the days that followed, but most of us were compelled to stay, knowing that we would be an integral part of the rebuilding process. The city became a magnet. For many of us, it was the place where we grew up; for others it was a place we moved to to see what the world was like beyond our small towns and suburbs; and for even more it was a place to achieve those impossible dreams that could not be realized in homelands where people were not allowed the luxury of imagination.

The Captain of Industry for All Industry had been badly bruised and battered, but cuts and bruises heal. Scars were left behind, but we were left with the indomitable knowledge that chicks dig scars. For all of the hardship that has been endured from the hours immediately following the 9/11 attacks until now, those who would declare themselves our enemies in one fell swoop may have taken down our skyscrapers, but the hopes, dreams, ambitions and desires of the people here still reach higher into the clouds than any structure ever could. So on this eigth anniversary of September 11th we surely remember all of those whom were tragically lost, but more than that, we remember that what they came here for was what made this city great. We can revel in the fact that no such blind hatred could ever help us lose sight of why we’re here together in this confined yet awe inspiring place. New York City is America’s skyscraper, it still stands proudly, and when the sun hits it just right, it shines more brightly than ever before.

Lady Bush Supports Obama, Literate Youth

9/08/09 - Posted by Evan Kessler under Politics, US

picture-349President Obama inherited a lot of undesirable elements from the previous presidential administration: two wars, a flailing economy, and a sizable debt, to name just a few. While Dubya has yet to offer so much as a whimper of an apology for putting the next President into such a politically precarious situation, The Decider’s legacy as a generally crappy decision maker has been overshadowed by his party’s quest to vilify any and all suggestions the current President makes in the attempt to get us out of this mess. Granted, not all of President Obama’s decisions have been golden eggs, but the dude is trying.

Unfortunately, partisan politics seems to follow him at every turn, whether he’s being labeled “the great indoctrinator” for trying to merely tell kids to stay in school or a “socialist” for his attempt to (gasp) get people cheaper health care. As the President continues to dodge slanderous projectiles from the extreme right and even extreme left, he’s finally found himself some conservative support from the unlikeliest of places… the wife of the man who got us into a good deal of this mess. Brainwashed Parents Fear Same Fate for Children

9/03/09 - Posted by Abdullah Saeed under Politics, US

picture-2118

When you don’t agree with a guy on one thing, not only are you likely to have disparate views on everything, but he’s probably going after your children too. Patches of parents across the country are trembling with fear over what President Obama might say in his scheduled address to the nation’s students on Tuesday. Many fear that he may, with his proven special powers, brainwash our nation’s incandescent youth to fulfill the world domination scheme that began when he announced his candidacy for president.
