In a story that’s likely to shake the small foundation of people who call music their “drug of choice,” it was reported this weekend that Virginia police spirited away over one million dollars (please, nobody even think of making an Austin Powers joke. That’s so 12 years ago) in illegal substances and over $68,000 in cold hard cash from fans this past weekend at Phish’s three-night reunion celebration run in Hampton.
The dense narc presence also resulted in 194 arrests, but the most damage to the musical event was done by the lack of circulating tabs and spliffs, without which fans had to experience several minutes of the headlining band riffing on the same chord for up to 15 minutes at a time. Some concert goers even reported “moments of clarity” and left mid-show. In a related story, the local Journey tribute band playing just down the street totally rocked.
