The world’s most obnoxious (albeit admirable) nonprofit organization is at it again: BBC reported Thursday that PETA, a frontrunner in silly and/or disturbing campaigns against the cruelty of animals, had asked iconic rock band Pet Shop Boys to change their name to reflect a more forward-thinking stance on the treatment of furry creatures. Not surprisingly, the Boys gracefully declined the concept, citing the fact that Rescue Shelter Boys is a pretty dumb name and after ten albums, it might be a little late to get people chanting that at concerts.
Original members Neil Tennant and Chris Lowe did suggest the idea was something “worth thinking about” and we couldn’t agree more; but next time, PETA, maybe reach out to an artist who isn’t already world-renowned.
