Americans have put a man on the moon, sent a pothead to the Beijing to collect an ungodly amount of Olympic gold medals, and even briefly nurtured the careers of Vanilla Ice and MC Hammer - but by all accounts we’ve still had very little reason to collectively hold our heads up as a nation… until now.
Ladies and gentlemen, an automotive company from the United States has broken the 200 mpg fuel barrier - that’s 230 miles per gallon city to be exact - so suck on that German engineering and Japanese discipline. It was good ol’ fashion red, white, and blue elbow grease that built the new Chevy Volt.
The new fuel-efficient gas-electric vehicle has absolutely shattered the MPG capability of its chief competitor the Toyota Prius which only gets a measly 48mpg in said situations. Unfortunately with every reward comes a little risk and there are a few drawbacks as far as we can see to the new standard for fuel efficient vehicles: One is the hefty price tag which is reported to be about $40,000 (that’s $40,000 more than you actually have), secondly, the cupholders aren’t big enough to hold an 84 ounce super duper big gulp you’re going to need while driving the 230 mile distance between Seattle and Spokane on one gallon of gas, and finally the stereo is equipped to only play that annoying John Mellencamp “This is Our Country” song from a couple of years back. So depending on your financial station, your ability to hold your big gulp between your knees, and your threshold for pain, looks like the Chevy Volt is the car to own when it finally hits auto shelves in late 2010.

Hi! If you’re interested in checking out watching CNBC’s Phil LeBeau speak to General Motors about The Chevy Bolt you can watch the video here: http://bit.ly/3fh75R
Thanks!
After the bankruptcy GM had to come out with a game changer.
How many miles would one need to drive to justify the price difference of $16K between Chevy Volt and VW Jetta Diesel? I still think diesel is the most economical solution to increased mileage of our vehicles at a reasonable cost. Having said so, congrats to Chevy! Price it below $30K and you will have have the most successful American made vehicle since Ford model-T.
