You never know what will be trending. It could be anything from Barack Obama to natural disasters to types of ice cream to penis enlargement supplements. Every day, I glance at the handy dandy OneRiot Trending Topics bar and have to settle for some mundane newspiece like the Iran elections, or our president’s inauguration. But today, I was delighted to find that one of my favorite things was trending: the city of Philadelphia!
I love Philly. I lived there for seven years until about a month ago and will probably find myself back there soon because I’m too poor to live anywhere else on the east coast. It’s got everything; a great bar scene, regularly available narcotics, lots and lots of stray animals, and that giant abandoned ship that sits in the Delaware river. For years I have been waiting for the world to see what I see in this town, and today it finally happened. Twitter users chose their new favorite city, Philadelphia.
But what exactly caused the City of Gutterly Shove (that’s what me and my pals jokingly call it) to become a trend? After researching the newswires all day, I concluded that there is no significantly big news about my city today. There were several murders in North Philly (in a horrible neighborhood called Nicetown), and some associate professor at Penn is calling Bill Cosby a racist on his blog, but otherwise, a pretty regular day in ‘illadelph. This must mean that people have just realized that Philly’s not just a breeding ground for high school dropouts and obese people. The true glory of our nation’s first capital is shining through and I’m celebrating it. I saved the Inquirer’s sports section for last today, so let’s have a look at– aw crap! Damn you Reinhard! Damn Yoooooooooooou!!!

Bahahaha
Great post. I guess news travels slow in Italy.
