Rep. Joe Wilson Knows Politics

As the president spoke, they held up signs, refused to clap or stand up, and even yelled stuff - honest to goodness mean stuff - right at the president.

For years, our houses of Congress maintained a level of decorum, at least when in the same room. Through the veils of polite speech and diplomatic discussion, these elected do-gooders simply managed to smile and pat each others’ backs, only passively representing their respective constituencies. For all those years, no one recognized that in order to represent your people, you have to be one of them. And dammit, lunatics at town hall meetings are Americans too.

Finally, those who prefer yelling matches to grown-up conversations can feel that their shrill, sound-bite yelling voices are being heard. Children who pout and feign a tantrum coming on can rest assured that their interests are at heart. Teenage girls who hold signs about which Jonas brother they love most can know that their tactics are not infantile. Republican representatives from across America have got your back and are taking your cues.

As the president spoke, they held up signs, refused to clap or stand up, and even yelled stuff, honest to goodness mean stuff, right at the president. Rep. Joe Wilson (R-S.C.) even hollered “You lie!” Now that’s how you get things done. It’s refreshing to see that everyone’s gotten over their fear of questioning the executive branch at a time when we really need it. How dare anyone try to help the uninsured while those hardworking folks are up their representing America’s loudest citizens. Where’s the justice? I want my America back.
