When America learned about Rifqa Bary’s story a few weeks ago, those who were already convinced that Islam is evil received further affirmation for their beliefs. The occurrence was a perfect indication not only of Islam’s supposedly murderous nature, but also of the saving grace of Christ. It was big news.
Truthfully, it’s not so big news. It’s not even the truth. But let’s talk about it anyway.
Rifqa’s story was, in short, that she converted to Christianity and was forced to run away from the home of her Muslim parents for fear that her father, pressured by the local Islamic community, would make good on threats to kill her for converting. She wound up at the home of a Florida pastor, who claimed the girl simply found herself there. Upon investigation, authorities found no evidence that the girl’s parents threatened her in any way. Her father acknowledged that he would prefer her to follow his faith, but that he allowed her to attend Christian events and practice the faith of her choice. Evidence did show up that the girl may have been lured to Florida by her noble savior, the pastor.
The fun thing here is that even though this girl was lying, she heightened animosity towards Muslims, including the regular working American variety. Her story being found out as a fake just allows people on both sides to dispute it, further polarizing the extremes in both groups and making it just a little harder for us to all live together in peace in this country. Thanks for nothing, moron.
