Weird Stuff <3’s Texas: Bloodsucking ‘Thing’ Edition

9/04/09 - Posted by Christopher Reinhard under Hot Topics

picture-3112 Since the advent of the Texas Chainsaw Massacre, the Lone Star State has been a hotbed for the paranormal, the macabre, and the generally creepy. And while the legend of Leatherface has been all but put to rest by the motion picture industry, light is being shed on a different story: that of the chupacabra.

A mythical beast that sucks the blood of its prey like a doggy Dracula has been ‘discovered’ in multiple locations along the Mexican border in recent days. Two years ago, huntress Phylis Canion found a couple supposed chupacabras on the side of the road and, after extensive DNA testing (results withheld), mounted one on her wall. Because that’s normal.

Now, it seems that more and more of these fairy-tale killer canines are popping up deep in the heart of Texas; and while one scientist has committed to rain on our parade with a more conventional, “reasonable” explanation*, we’re heading to Costco to stock up on shotguns, water and nonperishables—the zombie dog apocalypse is upon us!

*The chupacabra may simply be a rare breed of Mexican dog called the Xoloitzcuintle; or, more cutely, Xolo.
