Baseball may be America’s pastime, but it’s America’s most exciting league, the NFL, that is a realtime trend today. While the thrilling Monday night contest between the undefeated Denver Broncos and their rival San Diego Chargers may be a big reason for that, we’re willing to concede that today’s 4pm trade deadline is also driving searches up a notch. Football teams don’t typically swap superstars mid-season, reserving huge roster moves for the spring and summer months, though you wouldn’t know that from the way the Browns having been dealing established players like Braylon Edwards for some of coach Mangini’s past Jet favorites as of late. That’s not to say the in-season NFL trade doesn’t lack excitement, why just last year the Dallas Cowboys traded for the largely ineffective Roy Williams, and in 1987 the Rams sent RB legend Eric Dickerson to the Colts!
The NFL trade deadline might not provide tons of fodder for the days that unfortunately exist between Sundays, but people are buzzing nonetheless over their hopes and dreams to improve the rosters of their teams today in one fell swoop of the daily transaction report. To answer their public cries, lets take a look at some of the needs and tweets of a few fans to see if we can help fulfill their deadline deal void with some solid, (or not so solid,) takes on their gridiron quandaries.
@Zad_88 just wants a #1 receiver for his Wildcat dependent Fish. Solution? Perhaps whispers of Dwayne Bowe or TO could satisfy his need for a nice new pair of hands, which we’ve heard are better for catching than just balancing the ball on your bottle-nose. Though really, what’s the point when you’re going to run the ball anyway.
@TailgatingIdeas is wondering if his lightning bolts (@chargers) can trade 1st round Wide Receiver Buster Davis for some spare equipment due to the, let’s just say, lack of ability that he’s displayed so far. Well @tailgatingIdeas, we’re not sure that can be arranged unless you can convince the Dolphins and @Zad_88 that he’s a #1 receiver. They might be willing to take him off your hands for such a friendly price, but I’d imagine you’d want something in return. At least a 7th round pick in next year’s draft.
And last but not least @natknowsports is really hoping her Indianapolis Colts make a deal before the deadline. Seriously @natknowsports? Your team is undefeated and you have Peyton Manning at QB. If anything you should probably hope your team doesn’t do anything and just ride it out until Super Bowl time. Every team has needs, but it’s not as if the Colts are struggling. Unless you’re a fan of trickle down football economics and your thinking is, the rich get richer and it helps the poor teams like Tampa Bay and Tennessee. We’re pretty sure that’s not how it works though. Take it easy…Peyton and company will be fine. Sometimes options lead to insanity and the option to make a trade is probably an insane one for the Colts unless someone is dangling a pretty new toy for the low, low price of $9.99.
Alright, the deadline is upon us. Cross your fingers and hope your team comes up on the right side of a few deals or just wisely stands pat. Either way, it probably won’t be that exciting…it never really is.
