Welcome To The Future

7/30/10 - Posted by OneRiot under Industry, Life at OneRiot, OneRiot News

Welcome to the future, it’s coming fast.

The best companies know how to adapt and evolve rapidly to take advantage of emerging market opportunities, to stay ahead of competitors, and to better serve their customers. Being culturally agile can manifest itself in many ways – through new go-to-market strategies, via iterations to products and feature sets, or with changes to the organization that will propel the company to the future faster.

OneRiot is an agile company, and we’ve made some changes today that will propel the company to the future faster.

Kimbal Musk, formerly CEO, now takes on the role of Chairman of the company. Tobias Peggs, formerly President in charge of Strategy, Sales, Distribution and Marketing, is now CEO. Tobias will work closely with Ron Benson (VP Engineering) and Merle Waterman (CFO) to drive the day-to-day business operations alongside one of the most talented engineering and biz dev teams in tech.

While today is all about the future, it’s appropriate to recap some of the achievements this team has delivered over the last 18 months:

  • November 08 – Launch of OneRiot pre-Alpha, the first search engine to rank results based on realtime social signals to determine “what’s hot right now”.
  • April 09 – Launch of OneRiot Alpha, featuring the first realtime content search influenced by links being shared on Twitter.
  • July 09 – Launch of OneRiot Search APIs, enabling 3rd party developers to display realtime search results to their users.
  • September 09 – OneRiot hits 1m searches/day and announces 40 partners using the realtime search API.
  • December 09 – Launch of RiotWise, the ad platform for the realtime web. RiotWise leverages OneRiot’s realtime indexing and PulseRank technology to deliver advertiser messages that are relevant to realtime trending topics across the social web.
  • May 10 – Launch of a new Trending Topics Engine which understands what’s going to be hot before it’s hot. This enables better targeting of RiotWise Ads to match advertiser to content to social trends right at the moment they go viral across the web.
  • June 10 – Integration with the Facebook Open Graph API means PulseRank now takes into account “likes” across the web when ranking search results and delivering RiotWise ads.
  • August 10 – OneRiot will serve over 1bn RiotWise impressions this month, across a rapidly expanding network of 120+ leading mobile apps, social networks and search engines.

It’s a long list of amazing achievements, and we all feel very proud to be part of this team. As it’s clear to see, OneRiot emerged as the authority on realtime search and is now hurtling along a highway towards monetizing the wider realtime and social web. It’s time to crank that up another gear, and really go for it.

Now, being agile also necessitates making some tough decisions too, if they are the right thing for the company right now. Unfortunately, today, we have had to let a handful of well respected colleagues go. This is a pragmatic decision based on a strategically focused go-forward plan for the company. It’s in no way a reflection of the talent of the people concerned. One of the folks moving on is Robert Reich, our co-founder. Robert has had immeasurable influence on the OneRiot vision and product - helping us get to where we are today. We’re sure that whatever he turns to next will be equally as visionary, and we wish him well.

The team at OneRiot is excited to lead the way in monetizing the realtime web. We help advertisers reach an audience of millions of realtime social web users with the right message for right now. And we enable our syndication partners to monetize their apps and services with ads that resonate with their users in realtime. Bring it on!
