The end of October is almost without a doubt the most exciting time in sports. Football season is in full swing, hockey freshly underway, and today we find ourselves on the verge of both the World Series and the NBA season. We’d like to think the fall classic between the Yanks and Phillies has captured the hearts and minds, (not to mention keyboards,) of the social web, but instead it’s the premiere tip-off that has realtime net denizens searching up a storm. Roundball’s regular season kicks off with a slate of four games including Kobe and Co starting their title defense against the crosstown Clippers. While there’s been renewed optimism on the side of the perennially cursed Clips, the squad led by usually puzzled Coach and GM Mike Dunleavy has enjoyed an overflow of support from unlikely sources. Dwayne Wade Gives Good Presents
12/27/08 - Posted by Brian Burns under Sports, USDwayne Wade, Miami Heat Guard and NBA MVP frontrunner is really, really good-looking (so say the ladies). Apparently, he’s also a really, really nice guy. D-Wade just handed the keys to a brand new house over to Dawn Smith, a South Florida woman whose house burned to ground only days before Christmas. All her possessions were inside.
Wade not only hooked Dawn up with a new place, but threw in some furnishings, clothing and gifts too… all to make an otherwise bummer of a Christmas that much better. Wade’s foundation - Wade’s World - will make the payments on the house until Dawn can take over, or until it gets foreclosed.
“[The house is] a big-time relief,” Smith said, beside herself. “Thank you so much. Thank you so much. Oh, God, thank you so much.” Apparently, in her rush to thank God, she forgot the guy who actually bought it, and gave it to her. The hot-bodied baller-turned sweetie didn’t seem fazed though. “Hopefully, you’ll like it,” he said.
Get That Girl a Bib!
11/20/08 - Posted by Evan Kessler under Because We Feel Like it, SportsWhen I first heard five year old Milan Simon Tuttle could really dribble, my first reaction was to think, “There’s only so much pride a kid can take in their own drool.” Much to my surprise– and the surprise of many a fan of the fundamentals of hoops–nobody was applauding the kid’s slobber prowess, just her supernatural b-ball handling skills. The kid can flat out bounce with the best of ‘em.
The talented tyke, not content to show off a mastery of moves with merely one ball at time, takes on as many as three roundballs and puts on quite the clinic. Hopefully, the WNBA hangs around long enough for this girl to become a bona fide superstar.
