In a scenario that will surely be written into Stephen Gaghan’s next film, Special Forces identified and captured the leader of Colombia’s most notorious cartel. Daniel Rendon, best known to authorities and friends as Don Mario, had been riding the white horse all the way to the bank since the 1990s, but finally met his maker on Wednesday in a small town in the nation’s northwest corner.
While Colombian authorities are pretty stoked to have nailed Don Mario, the nation’s citizens are now glued to their television sets as another season of Colombia’s Next Top Druglord begins. The show is a lot more intense than most American reality TV considering participants don’t get kicked off—they get rubbed out. (Past winners include Pablo Escobar, Gilberto Rodriguez-Orejuela, and Johnny Depp.)
